Sugar Skull Rag Quilt


  • 1 yard of 6 different flannels or cottons
  • Lengthen/shorten by adding fabric
  • 2 Spools of thread
  • Cotton Batting the length of quilt or 2 yards for this project



  • cut each fabric into 6 inch strips by WOF (one for the back and one for the front)
  • Cut batting 3 3/4 inches wide
  • Pin batting and flannel or cotton together, (with the batting in the center so it’s not in the seams) sew down the center of each strip to secure batting
  • Lay out your fabric in the desired color scheme
  • Sew strips together using 1″ seam
  • When all strips are sewn together sew 1″ around the entire quilt
  • Cut into the strips 1/2″ apart, when finished wash several times to get the frayed look
